How does Glucosamine work?

Glucosamine hcl works by stimulating the production of Cartilage Matrix. Cartilage is made up of two parts: Cells and material that surrounds the cells, called the Matrix. The matrix makes up 95% of cartilage volume.

The result is that the cartilage can no longer act to lubricate the joint or absorb shock, as well as it did before. The Matrix is not working well, so cells in the cartilage and in other joint tissues may be damaged from the wear and tear of using the joint.

Glucosamine is a small molecule that is normally made in the body by cartilage cells. In the cartilage, Glucosamine acts as a building block and supplementing the diet with Glucosamine is beneficial because it stimulates cartilage cells.

Forms of Glucosamine that have been studied include Glucosamine Hydrochloride (GluHCl) and Glucosamine Sulfate (GluSO4). Studies have confirmed that both forms of Glucosamine are absorbable, but these two forms are not the same. In fact, you get more Glucosamine from GluHCl than you would from the same milligram amount of GluSO4, because HCl is a smaller molecule than SO4.

Glucosamine is safe to give to dogs. Glucosamine has an excellent safety record with no demonstrable toxicity. There are no known interactions with any drug or nutritional supplement.

What is MSM? Why do dogs need it?

MSM (Sulfur) is an essential macronutrient and required structural material that must be constantly replenished in the body for good health. After Calcium and Phosphorus, Sulfur is the third most prevalent mineral in a healthy body. Sulfur is used in everything from building cells and releasing energy to repairing and maintaining all the structures in the body.

Sulfur also plays an especially critical role in maintaining the elasticity and flexibility of the connective tissue and fibrous cartilage that make up joints.

The point is simply this: Without a continuous supply of Sulfur in a dog's diet, healthy function of the body is an impossibility. It is usually lacking in a dogs daily diet in sufficient amounts.

MSM is the main source of sulfur in food, but food no longer contains enough MSM. Animals will be sulfur deficient unless they eat their protein raw and their vegetables uncooked. However, how many animals get daily raw protein and uncooked vegetables? If you feed with our supplement daily, your "best friend" will get their needed MSM.

Let me emphasize that MSM is extremely safe. It is one of the least toxic substances in biology, with toxicity similar to water. Long-term studies done at the Oregon Health Sciences Center confirm this lack of toxicity.
